Your Favorite Food: High Cholesterol Foods To Avoid

In all probability, your favorite food may be among the high cholesterol foods to avoid. Just go down the checklist of popular comfort foods and you’ll see a pattern. Creamy fudge, Spaghetti Alfredo, Mac and Cheese, Chicken Pot Pie, Cheesecake… What these foods have in common are high contents of animal fats, which means they are high cholesterol eatables as well. They actually make you feel sleepy and heavy after you eat them, and more often than not, you feel you must loosen your belt or you’ll burp.

Do you like Old-fashioned Glazed Doughnuts, still warm from the frying pan? Or maybe Spicy Beef Chili with Cheddar Cheese and Sour Cream is more your thing. Unfortunately, these are not the way how to lower triglycerides nor cholesterol count. An inordinately high intake of animals products and animals fats are the biggest contributors to unhealthy fat levels. Another kind of fat to look out for are the trans-fats that can be found in refined, hydrogenated vegetable oils like margarine. The list of high cholesterol foods to avoid is a long, and unfortunately, delicious one.

Top on the list of high cholesterol foods to avoid is butter, because usually the people that love butter can’t stop with only a little bit. After all, what is a stack of pancakes without its accompanying pool of melting butter? Or Fettuccini al Burro without the butter? Even the healthy popcorn is much “improved” with its slathering of melted butter. Unfortunately, butter doesn’t love us as much as we love it.

But it’s not just animal fats that are on the listing of high cholesterol foods to avoid. Of course animal products contain cholesterol but there are plant products that contain cholesterol plus trans-fats, like avocados, coconut meat and cream, and the aforementioned margarine. As long as these foods are eaten in moderation, then they won’t affect cholesterol and triglyceride levels too much.

Of course, we can’t forget the accompanying beverages to our favorite comfort foods. Even though we know that it’s the oil that being washed down, it’s difficult to refuse that frosty glass of root beer float, or that perfect iced bottle of pilsen. When we think of Spaghetti and Meatballs, a few glasses of red wine seem perfect partners, don’t they? Cheese Fondue is perfection itself with a few bottles of chilly beer. We know that alcohol causes a triglyceride rise. But these combinations are so supremely delicious, who really cares?

It’s possible to enjoy your favorites (and their partners) if you eat them in moderation. Once a week is not bad, it’s the everyday overeating that can do it. So eat slowly, savor your food, and you’ll find that you actually eat less than usual. This is the way great food should be enjoyed while gourmands really do have a slew of health problems when they’re not careful with high cholesterol foods to avoid.
